I just want to share my feedback and the summary of the sermon from our Lead Pastor Paul Martin in Soul Survivor Church on last Sunday. If you want to listen the sermon. Please go to iTune store to download the sermon from Soul Survivor. It's FREE and put it on your iPOD (for those of you... iPod lovers). Pssst. Podcast... wooot!
In Matt 4, Jesus led by Holy Spirit to the desert more than 30 days. During the trip, He did not eat anything. He was tempted by the Devil for three times. 1st time, He was tempted for the food. He chose to fast instead of letting rock become bread. The point is fasting.
In modern Christianity, people do not talk about fasting that much cuz they think that it's not necessary to fast. There are few reasons behind:
1. We are christians. We are going to heaven. Why do we suffer those pain on this earth? God doesn't like to see us to suffer because he's been there and done that. He came to rescue us.
2. We all love food. We all need food to survivor and to live on. Food can satisfy us and give comfort to us spiritually and physically.
Here, we see Jesus fasting. Don't we keep saying, "What Jesus would do"/"Do what Jesus do" around the church"? We all need to learn to fast eventually because Jesus was showing the example of fasting. We are all Jesus Freaks... Jesus' followers. There are few reason that fasting is good to us,
1. So that we know how hard that Jesus was going through and we remembered his sacrifice. We appreciate Him more. Give thanks to the Lord and our God & King.
2. See how weak is our body. Human body is nothing. We can die in anytime, anywhere and any situations. We are just like ants...that small.
3. See how much we rely on food and how strong of our flesh and soul are.
4. Pray for others and yourself.
5. Good for your body. Extend your endurance.
It's radical, isn't it? Be a radical follower of Jesus Christ.
in Christ,
-Mike
